Troubled Manchester United star Angel di Maria was so shaken by a terrifying 'raid' on his house by burglars a few weeks ago that he has decide move - it has now been revealed that he is has taken his family into a flat owned by Phil Neville.
According to the Daily Express, the £60million summer arrival at Old Trafford refused to stay in the £4.1million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire, after three men attempted to break in while he, his wife and their child were having dinner in February.
Reports at the weekend claimed that the house was now up for sale and that Di Maria had been staying in a hotel since. Now the Express are saying that he and his family have been moved into a £4million apartment in the center of Manchester.
It claims that the Argentina international is renting the flat from former Manchester United star Phil Neville, one of the 'Class of 92'. The attempted robbery was additional misery in an already faltering first season in the Premier League for Di Maria.
Immediately following his summer switch from Real Madrid, the 26-year-old's bright site suggested he was going to be a hit under Louis van Gaal. But that early promise failed to transform into anything more consistent and he now looks desperately short for confidence.
Phil Neville's brother, Gary, suggested that Di Maria's recent poor form could was likely contributed to by the ordeal suffered by him and his family. Writing in his Telegraph column, the England coach said the effects of the incident could not be understated.
So poor have been his showings for the Red Devils this term, there is already lots of speculation surrounding his future at the club. Reports this weekend suggested the PSG were ready to tempt United with a big offer in the coming summer.
LVG's Hand Forced
Louis van Gaal can't be blamed for his decisions to substitute Di Maria early in the past few matches, as the attacking midfielder has look bereft of any ideas on how to unlock opposition defences.
But the Dutchman can be blamed for his use of him, as there has been a lack of direction, Di Maria is being used in a number of different roles but none seem to get the best out of him.
It is a sorry state of affairs for a player who was so instrumental in Real Madrid's Champions League triumph last year, putting in a Man-of-the-Match performance in the final against Atletico Madrid.
He is a class player, however, and will eventually come good for Manchester United - he just needs time. He is a long way from being at the level he was last season, but will eventually prove to be a great signing for the club.
