Are the San Francisco 49ers already giving up on Colin Kaepernick?
Well, according to one report, that might be entirely possible. Jayson Braddock of KBME-AM radio in Houston reported on Sunday night that the 49ers have had trade talks with both the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles about Kaepernick.
These reports have seriously come out of nowhere, much like LeSean McCoy going to the Buffalo Bills, but it seems like the Eagles could potentially be the team to receive the star player on this occasion.
Eagles and Bears Circling?
Any potential move would make sense for both the Bears and the Eagles. Chip Kelly seems desperate to bring in a new quarterback in Philadelphia and whilst trading up in the draft to get Marcus Mariota would be what Kelly wants most, he would almost certainly have to give up more to do that then it would take to bring in Kaepernick.
In Chicago however, the Bears seem like they just want to clear out the locker room and start again. Brandon Marshall was traded to the New York Jets, while it seems that Jay Cutler has absolutely no friends left in the entire Bears organization. Even his own offensive co-ordinator was calling him out last year.
The 49ers have since come out and been forced to respond to the rumours. General manager Trent Baalke released a statement to CSNBayArea completely denying that San Francisco have any interest in getting rid of Kaepernick.
“Colin is our quarterback and we are excited to have him,” Baalke said in a statement. “He is not going anywhere. The media reports suggesting otherwise are without merit and, quite frankly, ridiculous.”
Baalke however also vehemently denied that Jim Harbaugh would be fired when that rumour broke in February of last year, as did CEO Jed York, but by the end of the year Baalke just started to refuse to comment on the situation as it become more and more likely. So maybe we will just have to wait and see if that starts to happen.
Speaking of Harbaugh however, it is well known that Kaepernick was his guy both in terms of deciding to draft him and in the locker room. There may well be a possibility that the 49ers are trying to get rid of all facets of Harbaugh era in San Francisco, but that is just speculation.
