An early contender for the most ridiculous goal of 2015 has emerged from the lower reaches of Brazilian football, thanks to a powerful boot of Operário PR goalkeeper Jhonathan.
The 23-year-old took an almighty goal kick that he'll never be able to repeat during last weekend's 2-1 win over Nacional PR, a clearance that hung in the air for what seemed like an eternity before bouncing just beyond the penalty spot at the other end of the pitch.
His opposite number had no chance as the ball zipped straight off the slippery surface and into the back of the net, with the help of a nick off the crossbar.
Best strike by a goalkeeper ever?
In terms of sheer distance the crazy effort from South America has go to down as one of the greatest ever scored by a goalkeeper, which is quite a claim but one with merit.
Even taking a horrific late bounce and the conditions into account Jhonathan's strike must clear a full 90 yards before hitting the turf, which is no mean feat.
Can you think of one better?
Operario's young stopper actually scored what was effectively the winner in this local derby, putting his side 2-0 up early in the second half.
Without the superb clip featured above only a maximum of 2,000 people would have been witness to the strike, at Nacional's Estádio Erich Georg.
Thankfully the piece of viral gold means the lucky spectators present won't be having a hard time explaining to doubters what took place, step forward Jhonathan for 15 minutes of fame which will feel pretty sweet this morning.
Is Jhonathan's strike the best, or at least most unlikely ever to come from a goalkeeper? Let us know if you can think of one better in the comment box below!
