Tonight Manchester United welcome Arsenal in the last quarter-final game of this year's FA Cup.
So much history exists between these two giants of English football. For Arsenal, the are the defending champions and they face their biggest obstacle in their bid to retain the oldest cup competition which they won in 2014.
Manchester United hold something of a Hoodoo against Arsenal. They are the nightmare that Arsenal cannot overcome. even when Arsenal are playing their best football and Manchester United their worst (the 2-1 defeat earlier in the season comes to mind). They cant just find way to beat the Manchester giants.
Arsenal, after almost eight years of gradual rebuilding, are now back among the giants of European football. they are now able to compete with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and even Barcelona in the transfer market.
This is evidenced by the purchases of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in mega deals. On the other hand, Manchester United are just beginning their own rebuilding process. They have a new manager and are overhauling their squad after the departure of the spine of their squad; Vidic, Ferdinand, Giggs the latest to depart the team.
Arsenal can finally relax after they won their first trophy after almost a decade, they now have to build on that. Arsenal at present are a good footballing side, but they can be a great team. Arsenal Wenger has a squad that has the potential to achieve great achievements.
Arsenal have an enviable attacking unit and they've have presently found a warrior in the central midfield in the form of warrior Francis Coquelin. Their defense remains suspect and was horribly exposed by Monaco but Gabriel has given hopes of a partnership with Koscielny.
If Wenger wants to beat Manchester United, there is no better time. LVG is under pressure from United fans who are so used to an attacking brand of football under Ferguson. United are not playing well at the moment, their most expensive summer signing Angel Di Maria is out of sorts and only Wayne Rooney seems to want to play.
Arsenal have to go to Old Trafford with the same mentality and tactical awareness that they took to the Etihad Stadium. They have to keep their defensive discipline and trust their immensely talented attacking trio of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Carzola to get them the goals. Most important of all, Arsenal have to believe they can beat Manchester United. Arsene Wenger is a great believer of his team, he now has to convince his players they are on the verge of something great and that starts by beating United tonight
