It never rains but it pours in the NFL and Monday 9th March 2015 will be remembered as the day when a downpour hit the San Francisco 49ers.
It has been a very bad day for the 49ers who have lost several high profile players to various different sources.
Frank Gore has been linked with several teams in free agency which starts tomorrow whilst Patrick Willis is expected to announce his retirement.
The 49ers are coming off the back of a bad season having not made the play-offs for the first time in several years and are now running the risk of falling behind in NFC West.
Losing Gore to possibly the Philadelphia Eagles or Indianapolis Colts, then hearing that both Willis and Justin Smith may retire all spells out a bad day for the 49ers.
But it has gotten worse tonight as news has broken that 49ers fullback Bruce Miller has been arrested for spousal battery.
Miller now looks set to be out of the 49ers plans for the next few months making it four players that the San Francisco franchise may have to say goodbye too.
"We were disappointed to learn of these reports and will do our due diligence in collecting all relevant information.” - 49ers statement on Bruce Miller
The former seventh round draft pick could now be saying good bye to the NFL pitch for the foreseeable future.
Domestic violence has been a hot topic in the NFL over the last 12 months and Miller could be set to put his name with some other controversial stars like Ray Rice and Greg Hardy.
Rice's story is infamous whilst Hardy remains on the commissioner's exempt list as free agency is set to start on Tuesday.
Big times ahead
It was already shaping up to be a make or break off-season for the 49ers this year following the 'mutual' departure of former head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Harbaugh took the 49ers to two NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl before last year's play-off miss.
Harbaugh is now set to take up the coaching job at the University of Michigan whilst Jim Tomsula has taken over at the 49ers.
Tomsula's first off-season as the Niners head coach hasn't started very well but with rumours that former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith could be on his way, it could get a lot better.
