Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck had to be consoled in the away team dressing room after scoring the decisive goal in last night's FA Cup quarter-final victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Stand-in skipper Per Mertesacker claimed the England international was 'hurt' in the aftermath of his match-winner, and needed to be picked up by his team-mates to celebrate the memorable win. Welbeck's strike knocked the Red Devils out of the competition, and after spending so many years there as a player it was a night of mixed emotions for the 24-year-old. Louis van Gaal's decision to sell the Manchester-born marksman came back to bite him, after Welbeck capitalised on Antonio Valencia's sloppy back pass to round David De Gea and slot home into an empty net. Nacho Monreal's first-half opener had been quickly cancelled out by Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney. However, Welbeck had the final say by netting after the interval to secure Arsenal a 2-1 victory.
