Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi's entourage have made it clear that their client is willing to leave the club if a big Premier League team come calling this summer, according to leading French sports daily L'Equipe.
Matuidi was a late transfer target for Manchester United last summer, who had a formal enquiry for the French international turned down by PSG.
The Red Devils should definitely be targeting a move for a player possessing Matuidi's work-rate and desire in central midfield again this year, but should be aware that he certainly won't come cheap.
€50m price tag
PSG are desperate to keep a player who is pivotal to Laurent Blanc's style, which means they won't even consider selling the 27-year-old for anything less than €50m.
That eye-watering sum could well prove enough to put United off, but when you consider the Red Devils spent a club-record £150m on new recruits last summer perhaps he's a player worth considering even at that high price tag.
United need dynamism in midfield desperately
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal will no doubt be in the market again when a disappointing first season in charge at Old Trafford concludes, whether they finish in the top four or not.
United aren't exactly short of midfielders but none of them bring Matuidi's attributes to the table, as Chelsea found out in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 clash with PSG.
Matuidi was effective throughout that clash and burst into a dangerous position out wide and crossed for Edinson Cavani's equaliser, something United scouts surely took notice of.
Van Gaal's side look short of a dynamic influence that can affect the game in both penalty boxes like Matuidi, which means despite an over-the-top price tag he's an option that United have to at least put on their shortlist heading into what promises to be a busy summer at the Theatre of Dreams.
