Dutch winger Memphis Depay may have hinted at a move to Manchester United after favouriting a tweet which linked him with a summer switch to Old Trafford.
This has been reported by the Manchester Evening News, who have suggested that the PSV ace, who has scored 19 goals in 28 games from the wing this season, is being monitored by Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.
Van Gaal, of course, managed the highly rated forward during this past summer's World Cup, and now it appears that he's ready to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams as he goes in search of improving his squad.
There's no doubt about it, Depay looks set for a bright future in the game, and has attracted interest from a number of clubs ahead of a possible departure from PSV.
In fact, the duo of Juventus and Tottenham have been linked with the player's services of late, but it appears that the Red Devils could be in the driving seat to secure his signature sooner rather than later.
Likened to Robben
Rated at £20 million, Depay is certainly one of the most exciting prospects in world football, and has even been likened to fellow Dutchman Arjen Robben.
In fact, his current manager Phillip Cocu has insisted that the versatle forward can become as good as the Bayern man. He recently told reporters: “Whether he can be as good as Arjen Robben? I think so.
“They are different players, but they are both fast and have a good shot. And both always have the urge to learn.
“But Memphis is only 21-years-old and only in a few years can real conclusions be drawn.”
It now remains to be seen as to whether the United hierarchy look to step up their interested in the Dutchman in the near future as they look to win the race for his signature.
Of course, at just 21, Depay still has a lot to prove, but he certainly looks set for stardom after a remarkable campaign. His relationship with Van Gaal would surely help him settle to life on English soil, and £20m certainly isn't overpriced for a player with so much potential.
Many United fans will be hoping the club improve in the defensive department in the next transfer window, but Van Gaal's side still appear to lack a cutting edge when on the attack.
Depay, then, would no doubt help the Red Devils improve in attack, while offering a huge goal threat. This is surely a deal that Manchester United will look to get done sooner rather than later.
