This past week on Monday Night Raw, Lana finally caved in to John Cena’s demands and accepted the rematch between Cena and Rusev at WrestleMania 31.
The two clashed at the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view with both the United States Championship and the unbeaten streak of Rusev on the line, and as we know Rusev locked in The Accolade and John Cena passed out, meaning Rusev retained the gold and was still unbeaten.
This is Rusev’s first WrestleMania in the WWE, last year there were rumours that he could be one of the surprise entrants in the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal but that wasn’t to be. Instead Rusev enters his first WrestleMania right at the very top by taking on the number one star in the company, John Cena.
And deservedly so, Rusev has had a great year by defeating everyone put in front of him and his great year will be rewarded by the WWE as he is set to have a special entrance on March 29.
Details of which reveal some new additions to the scene.
According to a casting call e-mail sent out by the WWE, they are looking for talent outside the WWE roster including independent wrestling stars to portray Russian soldiers.
The WWE are looking for Caucasian males between the ages of 24 to 33 to play the role of a Russian soldier for the United States Champion over the WrestleMania weekend.
It was A.J. Kirsch who first posted the image of the casting call. Kirsch is a WWE Tough Enough Alumni and could be playing the role of a Russian soldier. He posted the following and it’s what the WWE is supposedly looking for in terms of non-unionised talent.
Project Name: WWE WrestleMania Event
Project Type: Stage/Show
Message: To portray marching Russian Soldiers. Must be avail. all 3 days. Only submit is you fit the description and are completely avail. Reminder to note if you have marching or dancing experience. Cheers, BBC.
John Cena is famous for special entrances at WrestleMania and it’s great to see the WWE are displaying the same level of faith in Rusev in his WrestleMania debut, much like they did with Bray Wyatt in his WrestleMania debut last year where his theme was performed live.
The WWE haven’t sent out any casting call e-mails for John Cena as of now but they will surely have something up their sleeves as there is no way the WWE will have Rusev’s entrance upstage John Cena’s.
The match at WrestleMania is difficult to call down the middle, with many hoping John Cena puts over Rusev and remain unbeaten with the United States Championship intact.
Only time will tell whether Rusev’s great entrance plans will transition into a victory over John Cena on the grandest stage of them all.
