Chelsea have already got their summer transfer business under way and have agreed a deal in principle to sign Shakhtar Donetsk star Douglas Costa, who is rated in the region of £18million.

That is according to the Sun on Sunday, who claim that the Brazilian attacking midfielder will be heading to Stamford Bridge in the summer, as long as he can prove his fitness to manager Jose Mourinho in the intervening time.

The report claims knee problems have dogged Costa in the past but believes he won’t have any problems in convincing the Blues hierarchy that he is fit enough for the Premier League leaders and will complete the move.

Reports of Chelsea’s agreement comes just a couple of days after the 24-year-old openly admitted he wanted to join them and that he was “sick” of playing in Ukraine. Costa believes a move to Stamford Bridge would help raise his game.

“I’d be really interested in moving to Chelsea because I’d be able to achieve everything I want having someone like Jose Mourinho by my side,” he told FourFourTwo.

“There comes a time when you become sick and tired of playing in the same league. I’m 24 and I think that it’s worth trying to convince them to let me go away.

“It’s time to try a new philosophy and I’m sure Mourinho's is the best around. He’s always fighting for trophies.”

Signing Douglas would appear to mean someone in the attacking midfield ranks at Chelsea is heading for the exit door in the coming summer. There are already an abundance of talented players at Mourinho’s disposal and signing another would make things difficult.

Mohamed Salah has been sent out on loan at Fiorentina and is doing brilliantly well, by Colombia international Juan Cuadrado went the other way and one would expect him to have a more prominent role next season.

One player who could be under pressure is Costa’s countrymen Willian, who Mourinho likes for his good work rate but he has only produced sporadically when going forward. Costa is primarily an attacker and it is a struggle to see where he would fit into Mourinho’s team.
