The future of Manchester United forward Radamel Falcao is one of complete uncertainty. The Monaco forward, who joined the Red Devils on a season-long loan deal this past summer, mustn't know whether he's coming or going as he makes a desperate attempt to get his career back on track on English soil.
However, time is running out for the once lethal Colombian hitman: with just nine league games to go, it appears that his time in Manchester is approaching its latter stages.
With just four goals in 18 Premier League appearances, things just haven't worked out for the forward, and a permanent transfer to the club is becoming more and more unlikely as the days go by.
So, then, what does the future hold for Falcao? Well, if today's reports are to be believed, the striker actually has his heart set on staying in England's elite division.
It appears that he hasn't been put off by the gloomy weather and his own diabolical form; in fact, he wants to make another go of things - even if that's away from Old Trafford.
To the surprise of many, one possible destination for the striker is Stamford Bridge. It appears that Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho has an interest in the out of form forward.
Despite possessing the likes of Diego Costa and Loic Remy in his ranks, it seems that the 'Special One' could turn to the Red Devils' No.9 in the summer transfer window.
If Mourinho doesn't, then someone will...well that's according to Jorge Mendes - Falcao'a agent - who is adamant that the striker will end up at one of the world's best teams next season...
As reported by the Telegraph, Mendes recently stated: “I don't know [where his future is]. He is a fantastic player, and I think it's very difficult for Manchester United fans.
"The truth is, right now we don't know what will happen. What we do know is that he will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not.
"I am 100 percent sure of that. But you know how football works, we need to wait a little. We'll see what happens."
So why not Chelsea?
Mourinho is a master after all. If he thinks he has seen enough of Falcao that he can get the best out of him, then why wouldn't he splash the cash on bringing him to the club sooner rather than later?
Remy hasn't exactly set the world alight at the Bridge, while Drogba is approaching retirement, so the Blues boss may well need to reinforce in the striking department once again this summer.
If - and it's a big if - Chelsea could land Falcao on a cut-price deal, then perhaps he would be worth taking the risk on. Despite his troubles on English soil this season, he has been one of the leading forwards in world football for a number of years; he may still have something left to give.
Chelsea fans will never forget what Falcao did to them in the Super Cup a couple of years back: perhaps, somewhere, he still has that kind of magic in him. Perhaps it's Mourinho who would be able to find it.
Just imagine the psychological blow it would have on Manchester United if Falcao started to produce the goods in the blue shirt of Chelsea. Mourinho loves a challenge, and this is one that would surely excite him.
Of course, Chelsea fans will look no further than the duo of Fernando Torres and Andriy Shevchenko, who both failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Much like Falcao, they were big named players with huge reputations who were never able to find their best form at the club. Despite their talents, things just didn't work out for either of them in west London.
If Chelsea signed Falcao, many will expect the striker to take a similar path to that duo. But the ex-Atletico man could yet prove his critics wrong. Unlike Torres and Shevchenko, Falcao could yet rediscover himself.
If you like it or not, this season was always going to be a struggle for the Colombian. Time was needed after his injury hell, but Manchester United haven't had time under the Louis van Gaal regime.
A little bit of love and an injection of confidence could see 'El Tigre' hit an extremely high level once again. It's one for Mourinho to consider.
