Roman Reigns has come under intense scrutiny from WWE fans for a range of different reasons this year.
Despite this, WWE has continued to back the superstar wrestler as he enjoys a huge push in the wrestling company. After winning the Royal Rumble and beating Daniel Bryan at WWE's Fastlane pay-per-view, Reigns will now have the privilege of main eventing WrestleMania 31 later this month.
Reigns will face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Heavyweight Championship at Mania on March 29, but he will do so under a barrage of criticism from WWE fans.
The WWE Universe have taken aim at Reigns over his perceived lack of talent on the mic, and his progression in WWE has been criticized by Daniel Bryan fans in particular, with them arguing that Reigns does not deserve to main event Mania over Bryan.
For the most part, Reigns has taken the criticisms on the chin and not responded to WWE's fans - that was until now.
"We have a very strong hardcore fan base and they go in a bit deeper than just what the storyline is," Roman Reigns explained, according to NoDQ wrestling. "One thing that kind of confuses me is that it is a performance, it is a show, there is a storyline. When people start doing the "He deserves this, He deserves that", really did Brad Pitt deserved to be Achilles in Troy? It's a weird world that we live in; it's very real but very scripted at the same time. It's a fine line and in my opinion that's what makes it so neat."
Defending his comments and the accusations that he has resorted to butting heads with fans, Reigns added that he thinks fans struggle to support him because his success hasn't always been totally independent.
"I don't think I'm head butting with them, I feel like they are head butting me. I don't do anything but go out there and bust my ass every single week. Even when I was with the Shield, I've always had the critics and I think a lot of it goes with the background of me not having that independent experience."
Regardless of what Reigns' haters think, WWE is pushing him big and it is expected that he will become the face of the WWE in the coming months one way or another.
