The Dallas Cowboys appear to have had a change of heart regarding pursuit of Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy.
Change of heart
According to Dallas beat writer Mike Fisher, the Cowboys are in the process of negotiating to sign the former Carolina Panthers star despite only last week have reportedly rejected a potential deal out of hand.
Hardy remains one of the most talented free agents still on the market one week into the 2015 NFL season however his off-field issues - he missed all but one game last season due to an appeal against a domestic assault conviction - have made teams wary when it comes to making a move.
Fisher's initial reports on Monday revealed that Greg Hardy was no "under consideration" as a potential recruit by the Dallas Cowboys front office.
It now appears that things have advanced at quite a pace, with the reporter's latest tweets suggesting a deal for the five-year veteran looks likely.
Talented on the field
There is no doubt that Hardy would be a good addition in football terms. The defensive end made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and finished that season with a Panthers record 16 sacks.
While Dallas have been making headlines for their offense this offseason, they have always identified the need to improve on defense ahead of the 2015 season and this signing would help them do that.
It remains unclear though just how Hardy's arrival would go down with 'America's Team's' fan base. The accusations of domestic abuse, although eventually thrown out on February 9th after the accuser didn't show up to court, have so far seen any potential suitors take a wide bearth in the early stages of the offseason.
It is suggested that any deal with the Cowboys would be on a one-season basis. However, with Dallas' interest now out in the open it will be interesting to see whether other franchises now make contact with Hardy.
If a deal does materialize this week it will be the Cowboys second addition on defense in the space of seven days after they yesterday completed a two-year deal for former Chargers linebacker Andrew Gachkar.
