To say that Ray McDonald has been under intense scrutiny this year would be an understatement. The former San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman was fired from his job at the 49ers for allegations about his personal life, after he was accused of rape.
Ray McDonald has always maintained his innocence despite the claims against him, but nonetheless, despite having never been charged for sexual assault, the accusations have destroyed his reputation in the NFL.
Rather than sit at home and wallow in his situation, McDonald says he will get aggressive with his rape accuser and fight her in court in a bid to clear his name, with McDonald expected to file a lawsuit today.
Huge lawsuit imminent
"In the eyes of the NFL teams, the unresolved threat of charges being filed against him, even though factually unfounded, continues to present a roadblock to this remarkable athlete being able to move forward in his career," McDonald's agent Steve DeFilippis said in a press release on Monday. "This lawsuit is intended to vindicate him and return his good name."
The former 49er says that as a result of his predicament, other NFL teams will not even accommodate the idea of signing him during free agency because of the baggage that comes with signing a player that has been accused of sexual assault.
"I feel like what I am doing is the right thing because I know that I am not this bad person that people are making me out to be," McDonald told ESPN on Monday.
"I've been fired from my job. I know some teams don't even want to talk to me because of this past accusation. All I am trying to do is clear my name and move on with my life."
It seems that Ray McDonald is going to go ahead and sue his rape accuser, but what do NFL fans think about his future in football. Do you think NFL teams should take a chance on him during free agency? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
