Micah Richards has told former Manchester City team-mate James Milner to consider a move abroad to revive his career.
Richards moved to in Italy with Fiorentina this season having spent the last few campaigns out of favour at the Etihad Stadium, and now he thinks Milner should follow suit.
The England international is out of contract at the end of the season and is reportedly being chased by both Liverpool and Arsenal, however Richards says Milner and more players from the Premier League should experience life abroad.
"Players should definitely consider moving abroad," Richards told TalkSPORT. “It all comes down to what club wants you.
"James Milner is up there with the top midfielders in the world. A lot of people say he’s not amazing at one particular thing but he never lets the team down and Man City are a better team when he plays.
“If the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madird and Real Madrid or Juventus and Roma in Serie A want you, then I don’t see why not.
“Juve have got some of the best players in the world at the moment. Everyone wants to better themselves in their career. Milner is someone who is too good to be sitting on the bench. He deserves to be playing in the starting 11 somewhere. That will be one of the key factors in his decision.”
Along with Liverpool and Arsenal, Juventus are believed to be in the race for his signature, although Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has previously stated he'd like to keep him at the club.
"It would be very difficult to find a more complete player than Milner," the Chilean boss said in a recent interview.
"There are players who are better technically. There are quicker players. There are players who head the ball better. But show me a player who does all the things that Milner does well and there isn't one. And whatever position I put him in he plays well.
"It's very difficult to find another Milner -- an intelligent player, with big balls and a massive heart."
However reports today suggest that the 29-year-old is open to a move abroad and is currently keeping his options open. ESPN add that he is currently learning Spanish in order to prepare himself for a move at the end of the season.
James Milner may well be one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. As Manchester City's season has slowly unravelled he's maintained his own high standards. It is to his credit too that he's done just that despite the uncertainty around his future.
A move abroad may well be what Milner needs at this stage in his career, but the fact remains that whether he ends up at Liverpool, Arsenal or Juventus, he'll excel.
