With the WWE World heavyweight championship title on the line at WrestleMania XXXI, Roman Reigns has appeared to be highly confident going into his highly anticipated match-up with Brock Lesnar.
Though any have often criticised the former member of The Shield, most recent because of the way WWE have presented him, there has been a professional wrestling legend who has expressed his support for the 29-year-old.
None other than Bret Hart has aired his views on The Beast’s opponent for the title match during an interview with The LAW radio show & podcast, stating: “I think Roman Reigns is ready and he is really good, I think he is a really great talent and has a lot of potential.”
This is the opposite opinion of many member of the WWE Universe at present, who feel Reigns has been rushed into his role within the WWE and is less-favoured as a wrestler because of it. Although he explained his backing for Reigns, Hart also noted the criticism the former member of The Shield has received of late.
His reasoning for the negativity however, was surprising as he said:
“I can see why they want to push him but I really think the hearts and minds of the wrestling fans are with Daniel Bryan. His work rate in the ring and what he gives through the match just means so much more to the wrestling fans than anything else.”
Hart seems to be remaining very fair with his comments, but understandably so. When Bryan’s victory as WWE World Heavyweight Champion was cut short after WrestleMania XXX last year due to injury, it was as if WWE were unsure what to do and so eventually went in the direction of giving Reigns a push instead.
Hart continued by supporting this point: “I think Daniel Bryan was a great champion and had his run was cut short and I think fans wanted to see him get that moment that he deserves. Even though he won the title and WrestleMania last year was such a big thing for him, the fans want to see him get his proper chance and I think the WWE put a line through that and I think that's probably a mistake.”
An interesting thought therefore is what could have been if Daniel Bryan remained WWE World Heavyweight Champion for a longer period of time.Perhaps this would have enabled members of the WWE Universe to have the chance to see Reigns grow and gradually emerge at a more plausible pace into a prominent wrestler within WWE.
It is however what happens now which is relevant. There is no denying that one of the biggest matches of the night in Lesnar facing Reigns will be an exciting encounter and will be Reigns’ opportunity to get followers of WWE back on his side.
