A number of top European clubs are tacking Douglas Costa as he looks set to leave Shakhtar Donetsk behind this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The report has claimed that as many as four Premier League clubs are interested in the player's services, with the quartet of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal in the race to bring him to England.

In fact, it has been claimed that Arsenal have watched the winger on a number of occasions in recent time, despite the player having insisted that he's ready to ply his trade under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea move?

In fact, Costa, who has been rated at £25 million, recently claimed that he could reach his maximum potential if he moved to Chelsea in the next transfer window.

As reported by the Mirror, the 24-year-old said: “I’m tired of playing in the same league. It’s time to change something. I want to try myself in a strong team that plays in a strong championship.

“I want to play for Chelsea not just because my friend Willian plays there, but also because it’s the team coached by a great coach like Mourinho.

“With them I can achieve maximum height. I am now 24, and it is a mistake to try to persuade me to stay.”

Huge interest

It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Blues step up their interest in the Brazil star or whether the trio of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool make their moves anytime soon.

The Premier League clubs aren't alone in the race to sign him, however, with the same report claiming that Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in the race to take him out of Ukraine.

A £25m risk

Costa may be quite the talent, but he'd certainly prove a risk at £25m. A tricky winger, the Shakhtar ace is full of pace and would certainly provide the goods in terms of assists and goals, but he would have to prove himself on the biggest stage after starring in Ukraine's elite division.

At 24, though, Costa certainly has time to adapt, and may well prove a fine coup for any side securing his signature this summer. It's certainly not surprising that the big-boys of European football are looking to land him, so expect him to move on sooner rather than later.
