WrestleMania 31 is the stage where the lucky WWE superstars and divas booked on the night will need to give it their all in front a packed out Levi’s Stadium crowd in just over a week.
The majority of big matches are already set and with a couple of shows left until WrestleMania 31 kicks off, we can expect the WWE to make an announcement or two regarding new matches.
For now though, the bigger matches are set in concrete with the likes of Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan and John Cena all involved in championship matches.
With it being WrestleMania the superstars and divas will obviously hope that their matches go down well with the crowd and they are still talked about weeks later, and there are certain matches that definitely need to impress based on the amount of hype and build-up that has surrounded them.
Here are the matches I think need to impress at WrestleMania 31.
BROCK LESNAR © VS ROMAN REIGNS
This is the obvious one, Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns are involved in the main event for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the responsibility is on both of their shoulders to go out there and put on a main event calibre match.
Many fans expect that Brock Lesnar will be carrying Roman Reigns and even though Reigns is improving, that still might be the case but the two need to ensure that they try not to botch any of their moves, especially in the big spots as the WWE wouldn’t want the fans to talk about how bad the WrestleMania 31 main event was.
The fact that Lesnar is on a part time contract meant that Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns have had to carry the feud on a weekly basis and the two have managed to sell this feud brilliantly. The majority of the talking is done and now Reigns and Lesnar will have to go out there and try to put on a fantastic match to close out the show with so many potential match of the night contenders trying to steal the show.
STING VS TRIPLE H
The moment WWE fans have been waiting so long for will finally take place next Sunday, even though he’s not taking on The Undertaker having Sting compete against Triple H is far better than anything else we could have asked for.
Regardless of the anticipation and build-up behind it, the need for Sting and Triple H to put on a memorable match is vital. It’s not clear just how well Sting can move inside of a ring at his age so the burden of carrying the match will fall on Triple H’s shoulders and the likelihood is that he’ll do a great job.
This could potentially be Sting’s one and only match in the WWE so they need to make sure it is one that is talked about for years and years and make sure Sting’s reputation isn’t affected. The only way to do that is to make sure Triple H and Sting put on a great show.
BRAY WYATT VS THE UNDERTAKER
This is a big moment in the career of Bray Wyatt, taking on John Cena in your first WrestleMania and then following it up with The Undertaker is a sign that the WWE have faith in him, not it’s time for him to show what he is capable of.
A lot of things can be considered here, the result of the match could affect him, his performance, his ability to carry The Undertaker etc. The Undertaker knows his time is almost coming to an end so he needs to try his level best to make Bray Wyatt seem like the next big think, and if that means going over to Wyatt, then so be it.
Fans were surprised that The Undertaker was even returning to compete in a match and the WWE have capitalised on the popularity by building up his return, it would be a shame to see all of the excitement and build-up failing if the match doesn’t live up to expectations.
ANDRE THE GIANT MEMORIAL BATTLE ROYAL
This year the match doesn’t have the same feel to it as last year, perhaps because last year was the inaugural match and now we know that the WWE just throw in anyone into this match and add value to it by attaching Andre the Giant’s name to it.
Last year there was genuine excitement especially when Cesaro was revealed as the winner when he tossed The Big Show over the top rope and created his own WrestleMania moment, the way it’s being booked right now it doesn’t look as if this year will match up to last year.
The WWE need to try their best to book a great battle royal, we need great spots, we need the biggest stars being saved until the end and we need unpredictability and right now it looks as if the returning Sheamus could take this. It would be great to see the WWE come out with a big surprise and an unpredictable winner which would not only make the trophy relevant but leave is talking about the battle royal for the remainder of the year.
