Roman Reigns has received support from a fellow WWE Superstar today as the biggest night of his life - the main event at WrestleMania XXXI - draws ever close.
WWE legend Chris Jericho, speaking to IGN, has told those fans who continue to throw abuse in Reigns' direction to "shut up", claiming the former Shield member has the backing of most of the WWE Universe.
Jericho also backed Reigns to prove his doubters wrong at WrestleMania when he steps in the ring with Brock Lesnar for the PPV finale.
"I mean the match he had with Daniel Bryan at Fastlane was incredible. And you can't tell me that it was all because of Daniel Bryan," explained the veteran Jericho.
"Because I always heard in the business that it takes two. And I think I've proven myself to be a fairly decent worker, so if I'm telling you it takes two, I think every fan should shut the hell up and listen to what I'm saying.
"He did a great job of living up to his end of the bargain and he'll do the same thing at WrestleMania."
Roman Reigns' rapid rise up the WWE hierarchy over the past year or so was at first welcomed by fans hoping to see a new top guy in the company.
The turning point though came at the recent Royal Rumble PPV where fans loudly booed Reigns as he was crowned champion.
Alongside his lacklustre on-mic performances, WWE fans felt Reigns was being hyped too much by the WWE to the detriment of Daniel Bryan.
Still a favorite
Jericho though believes that it is more a vocal minority of WWE fans who dislike Reigns, stating that the Superstar remains popular with fans on the road.
"All I know is that Roman Reigns was everybody's favorite guy until the Royal Rumble. And then everyone turned on Roman Reigns. It's so funny how two days before, and the year before, everybody loved Roman Reigns. Everybody. All the fans did.
"Daniel Bryan didn't win the Royal Rumble? We hate Roman Reigns! Boo!' And meanwhile, ever since then - I mean, we did house shows in Calgary and Edmonton and it was like Beatlemania. They were going nuts for him. And that was a week after the Royal Rumble."
When the lights come up and it is just Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar in the ring at Levi's Stadium then we will know for sure whether the WWE were right to keep backing the Superstar despite fan unrest.
There is no doubt that Reigns has the talent to become one of the best in the business if he can overcome the early haters. A big performance (win or lose) against Lesnar will go a long way to him taking the next step on that journey.
What do you think WWE fans? Is Jericho right that Reigns has shown enough to be in the main event? Or have the WWE shown too much faith in a guy that isn't ready? Let us know in the comments section below...
