Manchester United face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in a match which could have a bearing on which of the two north-west clubs secures a top-four finish.

United currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League table, but Brendan Rodgers’ men will leapfrog their fierce rivals by sealing maximum points this weekend.

Liverpool, given their excellent recent form and the fact they have home advantage, are the narrow favourites - but Louis van Gaal’s side produced their best performance of the season against Tottenham last weekend and will be full of confidence after such an impressive display.

One player in the Liverpool ranks who has come on in leaps and bounds in recent weeks is Emre Can, the versatile Germany Under-21 international.

The former Bayer Leverkusen star could have been playing for the opposition, however, according to reports in Saturday’s newspapers.
