Many NXT fans worldwide have been calling for NXT superstars to have a match at WrestleMania and at this year’s event their wishes will come true as one lucky star will be involved in a match.
On the NXT page of WWE.com, they announced that a four man tournament will be held next Thursday at the WrestleMania Axxess event prior to the big WrestleMania event and the lucky Axxess attendees will see an NXT match with something at stake.
The four man tournament which will be held on March 26 will see the winner earn a spot in the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal which – as of this writing – has 17 participants involved thus far.
The tournament is similar to the mini NXT battle royal NXT ran a few years ago which saw Bo Dallas win, and earn his spot in the Royal Rumble so one lucky NXT superstar will look to follow in his footsteps and compete at Levi’s Stadium next Sunday.
Tyler Breeze will be involved in the tournament and will be able to showcase his talents on the biggest stage if he is given that opportunity.
There were rumours last year that Tyler Breeze was going to be called up to the main roster where The Miz would take him under his wing but that didn’t come to fruition and now he has the opportunity to make his WWE pay-per-view debut at WrestleMania, if he can get past the other three in the tournament.
Hideo Itami will also be involved in the tournament and they will certainly look to capitalise on the recent Tyler Breeze and Hideo Itami feud, which means that these two may not be the lucky individuals who get to win the tournament and head into the battle royal.
It’s unclear as to when Hideo Itami will move up to the main roster as he continues to hone his skills down in NXT, learning the WWE style and improving on his English also, the final two members of the tournament will be the favourites to win the tournament and head into the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal.
Adrian Neville has been touted to make the move to the main roster for a number of months now so he is probably the likeliest superstar to win the tournament and earn his spot in the battle royal.
He was rumoured to be taking up a ‘Mighty Mouse’ gimmick when he moves to the main roster but that plan seems to be off the table for Neville. This match would be perfect for Adrian Neville to showcase his amazing talent on the biggest stage possible and he could do the same thing Rusev did when he moved to the main roster, making his pay-per-view debut and then moving to the main roster full time a few months later.
I would say Finn Balor is the fan favourite in NXT right now and with the fan support he has he is probably the second favourite to win the tournament and head to WrestleMania.
He still has his NXT Championship match against Kevin Owens to air on television so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Balor and Neville in the final and for Neville to progress.
One of the superstars will be joining the likes of Kane, The Big Show, Mark Henry and Ryback with a chance to really impress on the grandest stage of them all.
