Paris Saint-Germain could offer Manchester United the chance to swap Angel di Maria for Edinson Cavani this summer, reports The Mail on Sunday.

Di Maria has had a torrid time since arriving at Old Trafford. Britain's most expensive footballer has yet to come close to justifying the £59.7million Louis van Gaal agreed to pay for him and has been tipped to leave in the summer.

The same report claims the Argentine is unhappy and has told his advisors to find him a new club. The problem is that not many clubs have the cash to spend on such a huge asset.

PSG interest

PSG are one of few clubs interested. They tried and failed to bring Di Maria to Parc des Princes last summer as financial fair play restrictions forced them to pull out. However, they may have found the perfect solution by offering Cavani.

Cavani's situation is very similar to Di Maria's. He signed for £55m in 2013, but has failed to settle in the French capital. That is mainly down to the fact that Laurent Blanc has played him in a left-wing position; Di Maria's favoured position.

Perfect swap deal

Meanwhile, Manchester United are in dyer need of a new striker. Radamel Falcao will return to Monaco after his loan spell and doubts remain over the long-term fitness of Robin van Persie.

A straight swap for Cavani would solve the problems of both clubs and both players and should be seriously considered if such an offer is made.
