WrestleMania 31: Who has the most to prove in the IC ladder match?

Published Add your comment

There is no doubt in many people's minds as to which match has the potential to steal next Sunday's WrestleMania event, as the Intercontinental Championship ladder match looks like the match with the most potential to shine.

But whilst the match has show stealing quality, who is it who has the most to prove on the "Grandest Stage of them All?"

Rumours and speculation suggest that Sheamus will make his first WWE appearance since the week before Survivor Series as he joins the ladder match and could take the title at his first attempt.

The former United States Champion hasn't been seen in WWE for months and must feel like the WWE Universe have forgotten him, this will push him forward as all sources point to the fact that Sheamus will return to WWE TV as a heel.

Daniel Bryan

Bryan had the best ever Wrestlemania last year when he competed in two matches and lifted the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

This year, somehow he has to top that and Bryan will feel the only way to top last years success would be to walk out Intercontinental Champion. Since his return, the former World Champion hasn't been the same as before his surgery and this could be just the match he needs to get back on track and prove he still has what it takes to compete in matches of this magnitude despite recurring injures.

Dolph Ziggler

Another former World Champion with a lot to prove, Ziggler was the only survivor of John Cena's Survivor Series team and looked like he was going to play a big part in The Authority storyline.

Ziggler was ultimately fired just before the Royal Rumble and he hasn't had the same sort of impact since his return.

Ever the crowd favourite, The Show-off could create the ultimate WrestleMania moment here without winning as he once again shows where he gets his nickname.

Dean Ambrose

The former United States Champion walks into WrestleMania on an unbeaten run, given his pay-per-view win/loss record, Ambrose could really do with a win here.

But Ambrose has shown that you don't need to be winning every game to be put over with the fans because he is delivering in the matches he is in and he has one of the best gimmicks in WWE right now.

Whilst Ambrose could really do with another Championship run, he will be more concerned about that creating that WrestleMania moment.

Bad News Barrett

The current Intercontinental Champion hasn't had much luck in the build up to this match, his title has been stolen and he has been attacked on numerous occasions by Dean Ambrose.

He finally took his title back a few weeks and this week on Smackdown Barrett took down Bryan and Ziggler with the BullHammer to finally prove his dominance.

It will be interesting to see the champions' game plan heading into this unpredictable match up.

Luke Harper

The former Intercontinental Champion has proved that he has what it takes to be a singles competitor since he left The Wyatt Family, and after his ladder match with Ziggler at TLC it will be interesting to see Harper in another ladder match because he has the potential to be the dark horse of the match.

Harper has a height and weight advantage over all other participants in the match and also isn't afraid to hurt himself to hurt others. Harper could be the one to watch in this match.

R-Truth has come out of nowhere and been pushed into the Intercontinental Championship picture. He seems to have played a big part in the stealing of the IC title in recent weeks but was easily defeated by Dean Ambrose this week on Smackdown.

Truth needs to realise this match is every man for himself and leave the other guys to their own devices otherwise he could be in danger of being overlooked in this match.

Stardust was a shock addition to the ladder match after many fans thought Stardust would be facing his brother Goldust on the Grandest Stage of them All.

It seems that rivalry was scrapped and now Stardust has a point to prove as he has been thrust into a busy title picture. Whilst many other superstars in this match have a bigger claim to the title than Stardust, the unusual superstar has the potential to bring another element to the match.

The odds on favourites for this match currently seem to be Daniel Bryan and Dean Ambrose with fans already thinking Sheamus could go straight into the match and walk out with the championship.

WrestleMania is now little over a week away and with the eighth participant still yet to be announced, this match still has the potential to be the best match on the card.
