Randy Orton’s short return as a member of The Authority came to an explosive end two weeks ago after dismantling Seth Rollins on Monday Night Raw.
For months now it has been common knowledge that Seth Rollins would meet Randy Orton at WrestleMania 31 ever since Rollins hit a vicious Curb Stomp on Randy Orton on the steel steps.
It was widely speculated that Randy Orton would be one of two superstars to return at the WWE Tables, Ladders, Chairs and Stairs event but it was Roman Reigns who made his return in the match between John Cena and Seth Rollins and fans were left waiting for Orton to make his highly anticipated return to the WWE.
Orton did make his return on February 22 at the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view and helped fend off The Authority from attacking Erick Rowan, Ryback and Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE went down a strange route for this as fans were led to believe that the following night on Raw the WrestleMania match would be made official. Instead, Orton re-joined The Authority and the WWE proved that it was the correct decision as every single member of The Authority played a key role in the entertainment the build-up to this WrestleMania match brought.
The March 9 edition of Raw proved to be a highly entertaining one for the fans and was a real turning point in this feud, laying into The Authority verbally and then attacking Rollins at the end of the night pretty much confirmed that the two would have the chance to finally meet one on one at WrestleMania.
ROLLINS HAS COME A LONG WAY
It is great to see how far Seth Rollins has come on the main roster. From competing as Tyler Black on the independent circuit, to becoming the inaugural NXT Champion, taking the main roster by storm as The Architect of The Shield, becoming Mr. Money in the Bank and now he has his first big singles match at WrestleMania and he’s taking on a huge name in Randy Orton, that’s no small feat as superstars would do anything to be in Rollins’ position at WrestleMania 31.
The majority of the talking has been done and it has been highly entertaining so far. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out with the likes of Kane, The Big Show as well as J&J Security all turning their backs on Seth Rollins and how he can deal with The Viper all alone.
The match itself won’t be a worry for the WWE at all, there are far riskier matches that are taking place on the night but this match is one of the more solid matches as Rollins and Orton are both fantastic in-ring workers. They have contrasting styles and the chemistry between the two is clearly there as we have seen for months now.
This is a very interesting match-up at WrestleMania, Randy Orton will easily go down as one of the greatest superstars in the WWE and one of the top heels in the business. At present he is one of the few select best alongside John Cena as the two have carried the WWE for a very long time.
Now that he is getting a little bit older and he’s wiser, he’ll be taking on the superstar who will replace him in Seth Rollins; the future who will help carry the company.
I don’t think the result really matters, a win will benefit the winning superstar but it won’t hurt the loser as they will both still be firm main event players for a very long time.
Seth Rollins hasn’t won a match in quite some time now so a win would be beneficial for him more than it would be for Randy Orton. An Orton loss would help keep Rollins relevant and sell him as a top, future star of the business.
On the other hand, Rollins is Mr. Money in the Bank, losing against Orton and potentially cashing in later on in the evening would be a very successful night for Rollins. Only time will tell whether Rollins will come out the winner or loser against Randy Orton, or even walk out with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Either way, WrestleMania 31 will be a big night for Seth Rollins.
