Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher would love his former side to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy.
As reported by the Express, the now Sky Sports pundit has insisted that he would take McCarthy to Anfield if he could sign one player from the club's Merseyside rivals.
Progression of McCarthy
McCarthy, of course, moved to the Toffees in 2013 from Wigan Athletic, and has enjoyed great success under the Martinez regime, however Carragher would love to see him in the red shirt of Liverpool.
The club's legend told the the Irish Examiner: "I love McCarthy, I think he's a brilliant player.
"If there was one player I could take from Everton to Liverpool, it would be James McCarthy. I think he's just got to add goals.
"Jordan Henderson was maybe at that stage a year ago, where you really like what you see but there could be a few more goals or assists to take him up another level.
"Even though James McCarthy plays a more defensive role, he's shown he can get forward.
"He's a complete midfield player - he works hard, he can tackle, he can pass. I think eventually he'll be the captain there."
Premier League run in
For now, though, McCarthy and Co. will be desperate to end the season on a high, with the club hoping to steer clear of the relegation zone.
Liverpool, on the other hand, will look to put together a strong run over the course of the next eight games as they look to overhaul Manchester United in the race to secure Champions League football for next season.
It won't happen
Of course, Carragher's words were very much tongue in cheek, but there really is no way Martinez will allow McCarthy to join the Anfield outfit.
As the Reds hero stated, McCarthy has the potential to become the next Everton skipper, so will most likely prove his credentials with the club for the foreseeable future.
And, despite the club's troubles at times this term, Goodison Park is a great place for the midfielder to ply his trade, and at 24-years of age he has a great chance of becoming a top Premier League player.
