Right about now is an exciting time to be a Manchester United fan, what with Louis van Gaal having finally figured out a way to implement his system at Old Trafford.
With the summer transfer window on the horizon and Van Gaal sure to be handed an abundance of transfer funds with which to improve his current squad, the dark days of David Moyes’ reign are but a bitter memory from long ago, and the future looks bright indeed.
It’s difficult not to get swept up with the constant waves of speculation, even if you’re not a United fan, but keeping grounded in the here and now one can check out the best batches of gossip whilst still retaining a level head that isn’t clouded by mere fanciful suggestions. How you ask? Well, we’ll show you with our daily roundup sourced from across Europe.
Falcao to follow Tevez
The first piece we present comes courtesy of Italian outlet TuttoSport, who have thrown their two cents in concerning the ever-evolving future awaiting Radamel Falcao past the end of this season. The Colombia international hasn’t quite performed as expected for the Red Devils this term and so Van Gaal striking a permanent deal to land him from AS Monaco looks unfeasible.
That’s not to say his career is dead in the water though, and TuttoSport today offer a reason as to why Juventus might be his perfect suitors.
The Italian champions are known to be interested in his signature and it’s said that he could reciprocate that feeling due to how well Carlos Tevez has performed since swapping Manchester for Turin. That’s right, he could essentially use Tevez’s career as a blueprint for his own, minus the treacherous move across town to Manchester City.
Ruiz's scouting trip
Elsewhere the plans to recruit a new centre-half this summer have been kicked up a notch, with United rumoured to be scouting Argentina star Nicolas Otamendi. Word on the grapevine is that the club’s chief Spanish scout, Carlos Ruiz, was in attendance to watch the 27-year-old play for Valencia against Elche in La Liga last Friday night, insinuating that United are still interested in striking a deal.
Of course Otamendi does have a release clause to the tune of £37 million, placing the construction of a transfer firmly in the realms of the unlikely.
Vidal over Di Maria
Last but not least it’s become apparent that Angel Di Maria is only at United because the Red Devils failed to land Juventus ace Arturo Vidal first.
You heard that right, according to reports Van Gaal wanted the Chile star before turning his attentions to the then-Real Madrid superstar. After it became apparent Vidal wouldn’t move Di Maria seemingly became flavour of the month. Beggars can’t be choosers, aye?
