Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho sent scouts to watch Lazio star Felipe Anderson in action against Hellas Verona last weekend, as the Blues get ready to strengthen their squad this summer in search of Champions League success.
Anderson has been a revelation in Serie A this season, a versatile attacking midfielder with nine goals in his last 11 league starts.
The 21-year-old only signed a new long-term contract with Lazio last week but that hasn't deterred Chelsea, with the Evening Standard reporting that Blues representatives scouted the Brazilian for the third time this season on Sunday.
£30m asking price
There are no shortage of potential suitors for Anderson, with Manchester United and Manchester City also monitoring his progress closely.
Perhaps that's why Lazio astutely secured the playmaker's services until 2020 earlier this month, with an eye on securing the highest possible fee if the Selecao starlet is lured away. Lazio are still prepared to do business, particularly if they miss out on Champions League qualification, but won't consider any offers for Anderson below the £30 million mark.
Lazio believe he's better than Cuadrado
Lazio are confident Anderson has the potential to fetch a bigger fee than the £26.8m Chelsea paid for Juan Cuadrado because his raw potential has a higher ceiling point.
Equally comfortable on the right or left flanks, Anderson would definitely provide strong competition for places in advanced attacking areas if Mourinho is prepared to spend big again this summer.
January's investment in Cuadrado makes things tricky though, because there's no question that Eden Hazard's starting spot on the left-hand side is secure.
Competition for places hasn't stopped Mourinho investing heavily on top talent in the past though, so expect Chelsea to be frontrunners in the race for Italian football's new bright young thing if he's genuinely available this summer.
