Manchester City are ready to go to battle with their closest rivals United over PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay, reports The Sun.
The Citizens sent a three-man delegation to Holland over the weekend to analyse Depay's performance against Feyenoord. They saw Depay score his 17th goal of the season in what would eventually be a 2-1 loss.
They were impressed and are seemingly ready to battle for his signature in the summer transfer window. Manuel Pellegrini will first have to fend off Manchester United, who have maintained an interest in Depay since last summer.

Louis van Gaal showed tremendous faith in the 21-year-old after handing him a starting role in his Netherlands squad at last summer's World Cup. He impressed and attracted comparisons with a young Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manchester United seemed set to sign Depay last summer, but Van Gaal reportedly told the young forward to remain in the Eredivisie for one more season to further develop his game. Now that season is up, it is believed the Red Devils would sign him this summer.

However, Manchester City will be able to match United pound-for-pound. PSV are ready to sell for £15m and both clubs will be able to meet those demands. However, City face an uphill battle to fend off the Old Trafford outfit.
Goal reported earlier this month that Manchester United officials were already in advanced talks with PSV over a deal for Depay. It was also claimed that Depay had told PSV that he had his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.
Old Trafford bound?
It is hard to see Depay going anywhere else than Manchester United if Van Gaal remains in charge. The Dutchman has a good relationship with Depay and would be able to offer a greater role in the first-team.
Depay's long-term future seems to be as a central striker and there is a tremendous vacancy emerging for someone of his ability in the current Red Devils squad. Comparatively, Manchester City's squad is stockpiled full of striking talent.
The likes of Wilfried Bony, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero would all block Depay's route to the first-team at the Etihad.
