Yesterday news broke that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar had finally signed a new contract with the WWE.
This put to bed all of the rumours hinting at Lesnar’s return to Mixed Martial Arts with Bellator and UFC looking to snap up the box office draw.
Lesnar confirmed the news in an interview on SportsCenter and the big news has a huge impact on WrestleMania predictions, but the WWE already have plans for The Beast Incarnate.
Lesnar was training for a return to Mixed Martial Arts over the last two to three months and he stopped training quite recently. As he mentioned in the interview the reason he opted not to return to the UFC was because his friends and his wife – Sable – didn’t want him to go back to professional fighting.
So Brock Lesnar fans can tune into WrestleMania in peace, and be reassured that regardless of the result, Brock Lesnar will still be a WWE superstar.
The plan that WWE has for Lesnar is that he is expected to turn face relatively soon, this could take place after WrestleMania or even at WrestleMania itself. With Lesnar competing in the main event a face turn would be a huge talking point heading into Monday Night Raw the following night and in return, bring in more viewers for one of the more highly anticipated episodes of Raw every year.
Since the beginning of 2015, WWE have been discussing a face turn for Brock Lesnar and those plans and future merchandise was put on hold because of the uncertainty surrounding his WWE future. Now that his future is clear, the WWE look to be sticking to the plan.
The most obvious, yet preferred option, is for Paul Heyman to turn on Brock Lesnar, again this could potentially happen at WrestleMania 31 on Sunday. If the WWE decide to go with this idea, it would see Paul Heyman align himself with Roman Reigns – who could be the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion by then – and become his official mouthpiece as the WWE officials are aware that Reigns does need help with his microphone work, and with Paul Heyman as his voice he could move forward as a top champion.
Heyman aligning himself with Reigns and Reigns turning heel isn’t set in stone however, online rumours have also suggested that Paul Heyman could help Seth Rollins cash-in his Money in the Bank briefcase and align himself with The Architect. The amount of heat Rollins would receive for selling out twice could be fantastic for his heel push.
With Lesnar signing a new deal and with a potential face turn on the horizon, the main event of WrestleMania 31 is getting more interesting by the minute.
