Gary Neville believes Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea deserves to win this year's Premier League Player of the Year award.
As reported by Sky Sports, the pundit, who is also part of the England coaching setup, has picked the Red Devils' shot-stopper as his standout player of the season so far.
De Gea, who was named United's Player of the Year for last season, has been in remarkable form for the Red Devils over the past couple of years, and has gone from strength-to-strength under the Louid van Gaal regime this term.
Despite United's defensive vulnerabilities, the Spanish international has been rock solid between the sticks, and is certainly in contention to pick up the prestigious prize.
Neville certainly thinks he's been the best player this term, claiming that his improvement has been staggering and is now a great goalkeeper.
The former United skipper claimed: "If you look at the improvements he has made from where he was three years ago, it is absolutely staggering.
"He is dominating one-on-ones, there has been a physical maturity and there has been a technical improvement, too. He has become a great goalkeeper."
It remains to be seen as to whether De Gea will be handed the top award, but he's certainly proved his critics wrong after enduring a tricky start to his career on English soil.
There's no doubt about it, De Gea has been extremely consistent throughout the course of this season, and would be a worthy winner of the award.
United must build around De Gea
At the end of the day, United have conceded far too many time-and-time again this term, but with De Gea between the sticks they always stand a chance of success.
As Van Gaal goes in search of long term success at the club, he must build his side around his world-class keeper. If United can secure the signature of a top centre-back in the summer, then they stand a great chance of getting back to the very top sooner rather than later.
They must, however, keep their No.1 at the club for the long term, and tie him down to a long term deal imminently.
