There is absolutely no doubt about it: Liverpool v Manchester United remains one of the country's most exciting rivalries with meetings involving the two sides never short of controversy.
Certainly, both sets of fans, particularly Mancunians were keen to kick off the hostilities before the first whistle had even been blown.
However, one section of the general public you would not bank on engaging in football-related provocation are the Greater Manchester Police forces.
But, you heard it right, it would seem that Manchester's police forces were particularly keen to engage in some amusing twitter-based banter in the aftermath of United's victory over bitter rivals Liverpool.
Taking an apparent "sunflower oil spillage" incident as an opportunity to remind everyone of Stevie G's infamous slip against Chelsea last season, the twitter feed for the 'city centre' branch of Greater Manchester Police claimed that they were searching for a culprit they described a "white male aged approx. 33 years".
Rest assured, the police forces of Greater Manchester will have another comical Stevie G incident to add to their personal favourites list after his 38-second red card against United looks to have cost the Reds a place in next season's Champions League.
"You nearly won the league"
After the Red Devils had completed a famous league double over old foes Liverpool, it seems appropriate that the travelling fans should take part in some taunting charts aimed at the Reds' failure to clinch the Premier League title last season despite dominating the league for the best part of the season.
As the disappointed locals flooded for the exits. left to rue the possibility that the defeat against their bitter rivals may have cost them a Champions League place, Manchester United supporters stayed behind to continue the celebrations by chanting "you nearly won the league" over and over.
