Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale would make the 'perfect' signing for his former club this summer.
Writing in his column for the London Evening Standard, Scholes has claimed that Bale would be 'loved' by the Red Devils' faithful, insisting that the Welsh wizard could follow in the footsteps of Eric Cantona if he completed a switch to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window.
Bale, who left English soil for the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013, has endured a tricky time at the club of late despite playing a key role in helping them secure Champions League silverware in his debut season.
In fact, the ex-Tottenham man has been linked with a stunning return to the Premier League, with numerous reports claiming that the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are are interested in his signature.
And Scholes certainly thinks he'd be a great fit at Manchester United, as he stated: "My feeling is that he would be perfect for Manchester United.
"Of course, as a fan of my former club I would like to see him there but, looking at it objectively, I always felt that Bale was a natural fit for United as he developed at Tottenham from a left-back into one of the best attacking footballers in the country.
"He would be loved at Old Trafford. In return I believe he could turn Louis van Gaal's team into serious title contenders next season. In my years at United I witnessed some signings who, over their careers, transformed the fortunes of the team.
"From Eric Cantona when I was an apprentice, to Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney. These were great footballers who became great United players. Bale has the potential to make as much of an impact as any of them."
There's no doubt about it, Bale would make quite the signing for the Red Devils, but it remains to be seen as to whether the club step up their interest in him in the near future.
Van Gaal to be handed £100m
The Daily Mail have reported that Red Devils chief Louis van Gaal will be handed as much as £100 million this summer as he goes in search of improving his squad.
It appears that after splashing the cash in 2014, Van Gaal is ready to make even more changes in the upcoming window, with the same report claiming that the club are interested in the likes of Mats Hummels and Paul Pogba.
Falcao at the double
Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao struck twice last night as Colombia beat Bahrain by six goals to nil.
The front man, who has struggled with life on English soil, didn't do his confidence any harm, but will no doubt be hoping to take his form onto the club scene as he goes in search of securing a permanent deal at Old Trafford.
