Manchester United fans hoping to see David de Gea remain at Old Trafford past the summer transfer window will be pleased to see the latest rumours doing the rounds, as it’s been claimed his agent, the notorious Jorge Mendes, is locked in negotiations with Ed Woodward.
Given how important De Gea has been for Louis van Gaal this campaign his was always going to be a contract extension heavily scrutinised by the media, and interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid has heaped pressure on Old Trafford chiefs to get a deal sorted sooner rather than later.

It’s said within their report today that the Red Devils are willing to make De Gea the most handsomely paid goalkeeper in the world to guarantee a retention of his services. As of yet no paper has been signed and so his future remains ultimately up in the air, but the word on the grapevine certainly provides those hoping to see De Gea stay with some comfort.
The fact that Louis van Gaal moved to sign Victor Valdes in January was testament to the fact that United are obviously concerned that they could lose their number one, and that contract talks have been allowed to go on for this long without a solution being found is somewhat alarming.
Indeed it would be a surprise to see De Gea outright snub Real in the form of signing a contract prior to this summer, before he’s had the chance to at least hear what terms they would be prepared to offer.
With Iker Casillas’ shaky form from last year having carried over into this campaign De Gea is his natural successor, and a move to the Santiago Bernabeu would surely see him become Spain’s national first choice as well.
