Brock Lesnar surprised WWE fans this week by signing a new, three-year deal with the wrestling company so close to WrestleMania. The 31st edition of WWE's biggest event will take place in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, and after the latest developments with Lesnar's contract it looks likely that the WWE Heavyweight Champion will retain his title at Levi Stadium.
The news that Lesnar will be staying with WWE is definitely positive for the wrestling company, but for rival company and mixed martial arts production, UFC - the news could not be worse.
UFC and its president Dana White were eagerly anticipating a comeback to mixed martial arts for Brock Lesnar, who was once a former world champion in UFC. It is even said that Lesnar was training up until Monday earlier this week for a return to UFC, but Vince McMahon's "break the vault" offer - as White puts it - on Monday night after Raw swayed Lesnar's mind.
Even though White claims that he is happy for Lesnar and the WWE, after Brock's decision to re-sign with the company, some of White's latest comments certainly have a sense of bitterness about them. Inadvertently it seems, White has managed to seriously offend Lesnar by claiming that Lesnar was not made out for UFC anymore because he is not a young man anymore.
Furthermore, White claims that the mere fact that Lesnar had to think about whether he wanted to return to UFC meant that he was not cut out for mixed martial arts now.
“This is a young man’s sport. You shouldn’t be hemming and hawing about whether you’re going to come back to this game," White explained, according to NoDQ.com.
Despite these inadvertently mocking comments, White took time to also commend Lesnar for his previous efforts in UFC, and he also congratulated WWE on re-signing such a key man.
“Brock Lesnar came into this sport and did what many people thought he couldn’t do, including myself. He became a world champion. He was part of some of the biggest fights ever. He was fun to have here," White added.
“I’m happy for Brock Lesnar. I’m happy for his family. And I’m happy for Vince [McMahon]. I think it’s a win-win for all of them.”
