And today it has been confirmed that the Gunners forward will miss the friendly against Italy on Tuesday as a result of the injury. It is not clear whether this is just a precautionary measure, or whether Welbeck has a more serious problem.
Welbeck, along with Leighton Baines, Raheem Sterling and James Milner, will not travel to Italy for the match.
Sky Sports describe the knee injury as nothing more than a ‘knock’, which may be reassuring for Arsenal fans. But at the same time, it’s never good when one of your players is forced off the pitch during the international break.
Welbeck left the field with 13 minutes of the game remaining, as England cruised to a 4-0 win.
And the former-Manchester United man was instrumental to an impressive attacking performance from the Three Lions.
He played a key role in England’s first, as his shot was parried by the goalkeeper before being nodded home by England captain Wayne Rooney.
And Welbeck himself got on the scoresheet when he got the faintest of touches on a cross, before the ball took a deflection of a Lithuanian defender and wrong footed the goalkeeper.
Although Arsenal have plenty of cover in attacking positions, Welbeck has become a key player under Wenger thanks to his versatility, pace and technical ability.
What do you think Arsenal fans - are you worried about Welbeck’s fitness as the Premier League run-in approaches?
