Manchester United star Chris Smalling has insisted that he's happy at Old Trafford, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Speaking ahead of England's friendly clash with Italy on Tuesday, the centre-half, who has been linked with the club's Premier League rivals Arsenal of late, has insisted that he would like to stay at the club for as long as possible.
Speaking in the England press conference, the versatile defender told reporters: "That's one I've not even really discussed with anyone. It's a case of the manager's showing his faith in me, I'm playing, I'm happy.
"I'm enjoying it, I've always enjoyed playing for United, especially at the minute. If I can contribute as we are now then I'm happy to stay for as long as they want me."
Asked whether he was in negotiations over a new deal, the United ace responded by saying: "Not that I'm aware of, I don't really take care of that.
"My manager's shown a lot of faith in me," Smalling added. "He's very honest; he says what you do well and how you can improve.
"It's that honesty and that belief in you [that makes him special]."
It appears, then, that Smalling wants to continue to ply his trade at the Theatre of Dreams, but it remains to be seen as to whether the club will hand him a new deal anytime soon.
Starting to prove himself
It's been a huge past couple of weeks for Smalling. In truth, with another summer of spending likely at Old Trafford, many thought the defender was heading out of the exit door, but he's stepped up in style of late.
If he can continue to show his worth in the final stages of the campaign, then he will deserve to stay on at the club for the 2015/16. It's now about consistency for Smalling - he's certainly got the ability.
