England take on Italy tonight at the Juventus Stadium, with Roy Hodgson confirming that Harry Kane is to make his full debut for the Three Lions, after his impressive substitute appearance against Lithuania on Friday.
Kane is set to partner Theo Walcott upfront, with the Manchester United talisman Wayne Rooney playing just behind as captain.
Raheem Sterling, Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Leighton Baines are all out of the squad to face Italy, with Ryan Bertrand having been drafted in by Hodgson.
Kieran Gibbs is likely to start ahead of him, but the focus will be on Kane in his first international start.
As for Italy, under-pressure manager Antonio Conte announced his starting XI at yesterday’s press conference, with only Giorgio Chiellini remaining from last summer’s World Cup clash between the two sides.
Italy team news
Southampton striker Graziano Pelle may be having a dry spell for his club at the moment, but he has been selected to start up front alongside Brazilian-born Eder in a 3-5-2 formation. Eder scored on his debut in Italy’s 2-2 draw with Bulgaria in their European Championship qualifier on Saturday, and will be looking to make it two in two in Turin tonight.
Gianluigi Buffon starts in goal, with familiar faces Andrea Ranocchia and Leonardo Bonucci joining Chiellini at the back. There is also a debut for Empoli midfielder Mirko Valdifiori in midfield. Former Newcastle defender Davide Santon has also been called up to the squad for the game.
Italy team in full: Buffon, Ranocchia, Bonucci, Chiellini, Florenzi, Parolo, Valdifiori, Soriano, Darmian, Pelle, Eder.
England’s last meeting with Italy was the 2-1 defeat in Manaus, as well as losing on penalties to the Azzurri at Euro 2012. They did however beat the Italians in Switzerland later that year, England’s only victory in the previous five meetings between the sides.
