Although the match Sting was involved in at this year's WrestleMania event was not what many had hoped for, he still enabled it to be a hugely entertaining one for the WWE Universe.

While several followers of WWE were longing for a Sting vs The Undertaker match-up following Sting's recent WWE debut, it was to be Triple H who was going to face the 56-year-old at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

In what mirrored a flashback to the days of WWE vs WCW days, the match was an exciting spectacle although slow-paced at times, but in true WrestleMania style, it had a result which few saw coming.

WWE's plans

Why Triple H did come out the victor of the match therefore, has been debated by much of the WWE Universe.

To put it simply, a win for The Game implies that Sting really was to become part of WWE only temporarily, with taking part in a match on The Grandest Stage Of Them All being his defining moment.

Where WWE decides to take Sting's character next is an interesting discussion to have. According to PW Insider, the match was always booked to have the ending it had and the handshake between Triple H and Sting was made apparent because the company are still unsure of what plans if any, to have for the latter.

Sting open to another match

Speaking in a recent interview with AP however, Sting made it very clear that he feels the move he has made to WWE should have happened a long time ago:

"It was now or never, that was really it...with hindsight, after rubbing shoulders with the WWE and all the different departments, it's like, 'Wow, man, I should have done this a long time ago.'"

Those hoping to see the ultimate dream match of Sting against The Deadman may well have something to look forward to therefore, but everything still seems unclear with regard to WWE and the professional wrestling legend:

"I'm feeling like this is probably going to be my last one," Sting said. "We'll see how everyone reacts. If I'm asked to do one more at Survivor Series or maybe even WrestleMania next year, at this point, I would consider it. But realistically, this is going to be my last one."

Wrestlemania swansong next year?

With WrestleMania 32 being held in The Undertaker's home town, it would surely be the ideal and poignant stage for both wrestlers to have their final professional wrestling match.

The difficulty for WWE however, lies with what direction they would go with after this dream match, should it take place. Ultimately, the company relies on its fans and constantly needs to keep producing fresh ideas in order to maintain their interest.

Although the build up to this incredible match-up would be welcomed to say the least, WWE needs to come up with new ways of providing entertainment as they will not be able to rely on past wrestling legends forever.
