Olivier Giroud want to finish ahead of Alexis Sanchez in the goalscoring charts as he targets a strong end to the season with Arsenal.
The former Montpellier man missed the majority of the first half of the season with a broken leg, but luckily for Arsene Wenger, Sanchez's exploits in front of goal kept the Gunners firing.
The goals have dried up for the Chilean since the turn of the year, coinciding with the return of Giroud. Now the France international is Arsenal's main man, scoring nine goals in his last nine appearances.
As a result, both Giroud and Sanchez are on 13 Premier League goals for the season. While the Golden Boot seems out of reach for both of them, there is an ongoing battle to be crowned the sharpest shooter at the Emirates Stadium.
"We push each other, we're on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives"
Giroud told RMC: "I'm not going to say something silly because it'll be reported, but why not finish ahead of Alexis?
"We push each other, we're on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives."
The odds are certainly in Giroud's favour. He has the form going into the final few games of the season and will Arsene Wenger's main man as they chase both a top four place and another FA Cup triumph.
Sanchez had an incredible start to life in the Premier League but has tailed off since the turn of the year. In his last 12 appearances he has scored just one and assisted just one other. Many think Wenger's failure to rest him has left Sanchez burned out as we approach the end of the season.
Because Giroud was injured for the first half of the season, he is essentially hitting peak form now. He still has fresh legs and is reaping the benefits as a result. It would be no surprise to see him finish as Arsenal's top scorer for the season.
