One USA fan could barely believe what he'd seen when Brek Shea slotted home an impressive free-kick in his team's 1-1 draw with Switzerland last night.
The winger, who plays for Orlando City, opened the scoring with a fine free-kick that beat Roman Burki in the Switzerland goal after 45 minutes. While the travelling away support celebrated the strike one of their contingent produced perhaps the best reaction to a goal we have seen in some time.
The stunned fan stood open-mouthed while those around him went wild, long enough for the cameras to pick him up and stay with him. Sadly for the bewildered supporter, USA couldn't keep hold of their lead and the match ended 1-1 after an 80th minute goal from Valentin Stocker.
Jozy Altidore had a night to forget however after he was shown a red card for swearing at the referee. Video replays show the former Sunderland striker being pulled up for a foul, only to tell match official Luca Banti to 'F*** off!' to earn two yellows in quick succession and an early bath. Altidore issued a statement apologising for his actions after the game.
"He used some verbal words," Klinsmann told reporters after the fulltime whistle. "I asked the ref, obviously -- I told the players at halftime guys you can probably do fouls, you can do certain things but never joke with an Italian referee.
"It's unfortunate but it happened. He got sent off for a verbal comment by an Italian referee."
