World Title match revealed for Extreme Rules - spoiler alert

Published 4 Comments

It's merely days since Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and walked out of WrestleMania XXXI with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but his first defense has already been announced.

This week on Smackdown in a backstage segment between Kane and Rollins, it is revealed that Randy Orton will finally be given his rematch for the World Championship that he lost at last year's WrestleMania at this year's Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

Orton defeated Rollins on the Grandest Stage of them All with a fantastic RKO out of mid air and now it seems WWE want to continue the rivalry between the former allies.

In a backstage segment on Raw, it showed Randy Orton telling Rollins that he never had his rematch after Daniel Bryan won the title last year and now seems like the opportune time.

Many of the WWE Universe expected a triple threat match including Roman Reigns after he was the person that Rollins pinned on Sunday night, but much like late last year when Reigns suffered an incarcerated hernia, his problems with Rollins have been over looked.

So what does this mean for Roman Reigns? After being in the main event picture since the split of The Shield in June last year, how will Roman continue to push forward if he isn't in the title picture?

Daniel Bryan and John Cena also hold the two mid-card titles so it would be hard for Roman to open a rivalry with them given that they are already locked down with rematches.

Another title match has also been announced for Extreme Rules and it sees Rusev cash in his rematch clause for the United States Championship as he faces John Cena one-on-one for the third successive pay-per-view.

This has come as a shock given the match that Cena and the longest reigning United States Champion of the modern era, Dean Ambrose, had on Monday night Raw, but Rusev was always going to have a rematch clause in his contract.

Lana will also be back for this match after she cost Rusev his match on Sunday night, it has been announced today that filming for Interrogation has wrapped and she is now back working full time for WWE.

It's not a shock that these matches have been announced early because some of the WWE Universe complained that there wasn't enough build up to the matches that happened at WrestleMania, now there is just over three weeks for these rivalries to continue so that a good story is formed in Rosemont, Illinois on April 26th.
