England managed to claw some dignity from last night’s draw with Italy thanks to Andros Townsend’s superb strike, but the Italian media didn’t hold back when firing criticism at Arsenal’s Theo Walcott. The winger, who has had plenty of injury struggles this campaign, was given a poultry rating of five by Gazzetta dello Sport, with Nathaniel Clyne recording the same score. It caps off a bad few weeks for the Gunners ace that has seen his future thrown into doubt over reports of a contract stand off. Now we’re not sure if this next one is an April Fool’s but if it is then there’s a sports journalist somewhere with far too much time on their hands. Chelsea want to buy Walcott this summer. Nicely leading on from other reports this morning it’s said that the Blues are interested primarily because they’re worried about their home-grown quota. We’ll finish by throwing out a disclaimer; we don’t think this is going to be happening anytime soon.
