The French stopper has a reputation for being one of the best in Europe yet hasn’t been plying his trade in the Champions League at White Hart Lane, and his suitors, chief amongst whom are Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, may look to take advantage of his ambition for major silverware this summer.
Cech and Lloris
If they do then Spurs will be left with a huge void to fill. Not only is Lloris arguably their most consistent player but he’s also their vice-captain, and second-choice Michel Vorm isn’t half as influential. Of course across town Chelsea are all but set to lose Cech due to his longing to play first-team football, and a bid for his services could well ensue, according to the Daily Mirror.
To date Arsenal have been the only Premier League side linked with a move for the Czech international, with Arsene Wenger said to be ready to find a replacement for either Wojciech Szczesny or David Ospina. Cech is more than qualified to take up that mantle, though of course it remains to be seen how readily Mourinho will let him leave for a potential title rival.
Spurs to lead the charge?
With that in mind perhaps Tottenham could sneak into pole position with regards to the plausibility of Chelsea doing a deal.
They’re not exactly an immediate threat to the Blues concerning the Premier League title and don’t look like they’ll be participating in the Champions League next season. That might put Cech off negotiating to become a Lilywhite in the event that Spurs do lose Lloris, but in order for it to come to that his club would have to accept an offer from Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea fans, would you prefer to lose Cech to Arsenal or Tottenham if forced to pick between the two sides? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.
