Louis van Gaal has admitted that Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini is in such great form that he can't be dropped.
Fellaini, who was once a figure of fun among the Manchester United fans, is in a rich vein of form. The Belgian international struggled for playing time under David Moyes, and earlier this season under van Gaal.
But the Dutchman's tactics have utilised Fellaini's strengths in the second half of the campaign to such an extent that the former-Everton man is now a key player for the Old Trafford club.
“I can’t leave Fellaini out when he’s playing like this,” the Dutchman told reporters ahead of the visit of Aston Villa on Saturday.
“I have said that the first time that I met him he was late because of the world championships.
“I didn't know him. Of course I have heard a lot of stories about him but from the very first session he did what I asked. He was open and wants to perform.
“I am not surprised [by his improvement]. He had, I think, an unlucky season because he was injured a lot of times.
“He can give a lot of balance in the team, but of course I can change him also dependable on the qualities of the opponent.”
High praise indeed from a manager known to be a harsh taskmaster. As a result, it's clear that Fellaini will start against Villa on Saturday afternoon as United look to move a step closer to Champions League qualification for next season.
Fellaini's good form continued over the international break, as he scored two for Belgium against Cyprus. He also featured in their game against Israel, as the Red Devils seek qualification for next year's tournament in France.
What do you think Manchester United fans - is Fellaini in such good form that he now can't be left out?
