Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has urged the club to sell their current striker-force and replace them with proven world-class strikers, with Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli one of the possible signings, reports the Daily Star.
The Reds have struggled for goals all season compared to the dizzying heights they met last campaign with Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge firing goals in for fun, and Thompson has urged Brendan Rodgers to act upon it this summer.
Lack of Goals
With Suarez sold to Barcelona and Sturridge out for the majority of the season due to injuries, Liverpool have been left with Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli as striker options, and none of them have managed to impress.

Balotelli was signed from AC Milan in the summer, but his lazy attitude and failure to shine in England has caused Liverpool to rethink their signing.
As for Borini and Lambert, they have both failed to impress at Anfield as well, and they too have been strongly linked with moves away from the club over the summer.

Borini rejected a chance to leave the club on transfer deadline day, whilst Lambert was brought in from Southampton after a fruitful campaign at St Mary's last year, but he has failed to match his goal tally.
With top-four slowly slipping away from The Reds, former-assistant manager Thompson has urged the club to act fast in the summer and ship out all three failing strikers and replace them with proven names.
Thompson mentioned Higuain from Napoli, Edinson Cavani and his team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi from Paris Saint-Germain, however, he urged the club to forget about signing Burnley forward Danny Ings as he doesn't believe he has the experience to succeed in Merseyside.
Thompson said: "There will be quite a few offloaded and Rodgers might have a bit of a clear out.
"I think it will be very difficult for Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini to remain and, whether the club want to move them on or not, I think they’re going to want to seek pastures new.
"Burnley's Danny Ings doesn’t have the experience to carry that weight and I think Brendan Rodgers needs to bring in a more established striker.
"Gonzalo Higuain, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani or somebody of that ilk is required, which means Liverpool are going to have to spend big to be considered title contenders next season."
With Rafael Benitez set to leave Napoli at the end of the season once his contract expires, a few things could change at the club and Higuain could be considering his own future, especially if Premier League clubs come calling.
The Argentine nearly joined Arsenal before he completed his switch to Serie A from Real Madrid.
