Manchester United have lined up the two deals they want to get done this summer and have already decided in what order they are going to do things – first up is Mats Hummels.
According to the Daily Mail, Louis van Gaal has set his sights on Southampton star Nathaniel Clyne, but the Old Trafford club will move for the promising right-back once they have wrapped up a deal for the Borussia Dortmund centre-back.
The report claims that defence has been highlighted as a key area for improvement next season by Van Gaal and United will be attempting to get a deal done for Hummels quickly before then moving on to convincing Southampton to sell Clyne.
Javier Hernandez is currently on loan at Real Madrid after falling out of favour at Old Trafford and the report claims the Mexico striker could be used as a makeweight in a deal to sign Clyne, as Saints are looking to add firepower in attack this summer.
However, this will only be approached once the Red Devils have achieved their first priority for their summer transfer business and land the Germany international, who looks certain to leave Dortmund this summer following a disastrous campaign that will almost certainly see them fall out of the Bundesliga’s Champions League places.
Meanwhile, Manchester United all but cemented their place in the top four for this season by defeating Aston Villa 3-1 at home on Saturday following Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal earlier in the day.
