Former Chelsea winger Kevin de Bruyne, now of Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, has emerged as a reported summer transfer window target for Manchester City.
It has been claimed by Duncan Castles, writing for the Sunday Times, that Manchester City have gone so far as to hold talks regarding De Bruyne, although it may be that these have been internal discussions.
De Bruyne has been in fine form indeed since his move to Wolfsburg in the January transfer window of last year and has played a prominent role in their success of this season, contributing three goals and five assists in the last five games alone.
The 23-year-old’s rapid rise has resulted in a valuation of £30 million, which would be a profit of £12 million for Wolfsburg on what they had paid to sign De Bruyne from Chelsea 15 months ago.
De Bruyne has actually been linked with a return to Chelsea and the Belgium international would, according to ESPN, be open a Stamford Bridge return were an opportunity to return.
Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in De Bruyne and a transfer to either Old Trafford or the Etihad Stadium would make more sense than re-joining Chelsea given the apparent fall out with Jose Mourinho.
De Bruyne does have the hallmarks of a Louis van Gaal type player although his acquisition would raise further questions about the respective futures of both Angel di Maria and Adnan Januzaj.
Di Maria has this weekend also been linked with a move to City, although that would seem far from likely to happen.
