Formula 1 teams as football clubs (1)

Football and F1: two of the most popular sports on the planet.

For decades they have both led their respective fields as the dominant sport: Formula 1, the pinnacle of motor-sports; and football the beautiful game, loved by all.

There have been a few overlaps, like Chelsea FC's partnership with Sauber F1 team; but beyond that the two sports have held their merit in their own right.

The drivers

Fernando Alonso supported his motherland Spain during the World Cup wearing a Xabi Alonso jersey, Lukas Podolski was at the German GP after winning the WC last year.

And perhaps a more notorious connection: remember Kimi Raikkonen's typical candid reason explaining his absence from an Award Presentation by a certain Mr. Pele before the Brazilian GP of '06.
