It will be a match-up of huge proportions as the IPL kicks off tomorrow. Kolkata Knight Riders, the current champions will battle it out with the 2013 champions, the Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens.
The home side have retained most of their squad through the IPL auction as they look to add to an already impressive two IPL titles.
Similarly, the Mumbai Indians have retained most of their squad that helped them reach the playoffs last season, before being stopped by the Chennai Super Kings in the Eliminator.
Ponting looking to make difference
One thing that has changed in the Mumbai camp however, is the addition of Australian great Ricky Ponting – not as a player, but head coach. The appointment comes after New Zealander John Wright called time on his coaching duties with the Maharashtra side.
Previous meetings between the two sides fall heavily in favour of Mumbai, as they have been victorious 10 times of the 14 match ups. Things are definitely looking on the up for Kolkata though, as they dispatched MI on both occasions they played in 2014 comfortably.
The opening partnership of the red-hot Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa will prove to be vital for KKR as they battle against the prolific MI bowling set up facing the likes of Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh.
The MI skipper, Rohit Sharma has proved repeatedly that he is a prospect that should be feared
by all teams. Sharma along with a powerful hitting middle order may take the game out of KKR’s reach.
KKR will without a doubt be boosted by the news that star spinner Sunil Narine has been cleared
of his all wrongdoing in terms of his action and will be eligible to play for the defending champions.
The match will take place at 3:30pm GMT on Sky Sports 2 HD or 8:00pm IST.
