The WWE world remains in shock following the surprise retirement of Diva Superstar, AJ Lee, over the weekend and today one of her long-time rivals has commented on the issue.
Naomi, responding to questions on Twitter today, has had her say on Lee's departure. Putting aside their rivalry the WWE Diva went on record to praise Lee for what she did for the business.
There had been rumors earlier in the year that AJ Lee would quit WWE but the announcement this weekend still came as a surprise to many. Naomi's comments, alongside those made by The Bella Twins, show jut how well respected she was as a wrestling innovator.
Naomi, real name Trinity Fatu, posted the following message late last night:
AJ Lee leaves the WWE having spent six years working for the company. She signed a deal in 2009 but didn't make her main roster debut until May of 2011. Lee went on to become Divas Champion during the years since and was one of the most popular female wrestlers in the business - known for challenging the Total Divas clique.
Lee actually holds the record for longest reigning Divas champion - holding on to the belt for an unprecedented 295 days until losing it in 2014 to Paige.
Although she remains under contract with WWE, a fact made clear in the company's official statement regarding her departure this week, the fact that so many of her peers are coming out to comment on the situation must put in doubt a possible in-ring return.
As well as Naomi's positive comments, both Nikki and Brie Bella went on record to say that AJ Lee would be a huge loss for the company.
One thing is for sure though, her WWE exit has been far less tumultuous than that of her husband, CM Punk, who continues to harbor bad blood with the promotion's higher ups.
While we might not see Naomi and AJ Lee go head to head again, let's relive one match between the two top Diva Superstars.
